Why do people prefer mobile games? The answer is the games are fun and entertaining, right? People feel more engaged and less stressed on playing mobile games than going on social apps.
Smartphone usage has reached an all-time high due to the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. Lakhs of games were downloaded by mobile users during the first quarter of 2020. About 45% of the Indians started to play games on their smartphones during this period.
There are currently 10 lakhs+ games, 3 billion+ gamers, 50 million+ streamers worldwide. How cool would a community platform for such gamers spread across mobile, PC, console, etc. look like?
Turnip is a Made In India app that empowers the gaming communities to run, discover and join interactive experiences.
This Bengaluru-based startup was founded in April 2020 by Aditya Sharma and Pooja Dubey.
“The advent of the powerful smartphone and cheap data rates have pushed gaming into the spotlight. Whether it’s a 12-year-old learning to play chess, an Uber driver expressing his love for PubG, or working professionals bragging about their Among Us wins – the love for gaming knows no bounds. Tiding along with this transformative wave, we want to re-imagine community and interactions for gaming by creating a platform where mobile gamers can come together and share their love for gaming.”
– Pooja Dubey, Co-founder
“Gaming fans love watching their favorite creators, go out of their way to interact via YouTube paid-chats, and often dream about getting a shoutout someday. However, currently, these interactions are basic and limited. We believe that there is huge potential in enriching these engagements. This is where Turnip comes in to create an impact by transforming the way mobile gamers create, consume, and interact with live content.”
– Aditya Sharma, Co-founder
The Turnip app helps to:
- Build and run your own gaming community
- Discover and join gaming communities and support creators
- Livestream mobile games and events in 1080p for free
Livestreaming is emerging as an engaging form of interaction. Thirteen-year-old kids are streaming their pubg mobile & fortnite gameplays with their audience, who watch them for skill learning, fun and a lot more. The platform helps creators to seamlessly stream on YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms. It helps with running interactive experiences for their communities and monetize the engagement.
The app now has 1 million users across 7+ countries and has 70%+ organic acquisition.
Turnip recently received $1.63 million funding from Elevation Capital. The startup plans to use the funds to expand its reach to millions of gaming communities by building a scalable and pioneering product. It also plans to recruit talented individuals who have a shared passion to build the future of gaming.
The global market for mobile gaming is projected to reach US$153. 3 billion by the year 2027, trailing a post COVID-19 CAGR of 11. Turnip has a positive note on building the future of gaming for 600 million+ gamers in India.
