Nowadays, the food we eat and the environment we live in are prone to toxins, which tend make us sick. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), non-communicable diseases or chronic diseases, such as cancer, heart ailments, respiratory diseases and diabetes kill 38 million people globally every year. The toxins in our body could also lead to poor Thyroid function, or Hashimoto’s Thyroid. About 25 percent of patients with autoimmune diseases have the tendency to develop additional autoimmune conditions.

What is the best solution for all these chronic health issues? Mere treatment of suppressing the immune system will not solve these problems. There needs to be a way to do a detailed analysis for figuring out all the dysfunctions and triggers. It is then that the treatment becomes effective.

Jeevam Health, a virtual primary healthcare startup, targets the telemedicine space for autoimmune and metabolic health issues in India. It aims to cure the root cause of chronic issues by using a holistic approach, rather than curing just the symptoms. The company is making this possible by leveraging the tools and processes of Functional Medicine.

Jeevam Health, the Delhi-based startup, was founded amid the pandemic in 2020 by Piyush Vishwakarma, Kamran Alam, and Dr. Anish Musa, MD. It the aims to change the perception of chronic healthcare treatment in India by utilizing advanced diagnostics and combining it with the ancient wisdom of using food-as-medicine to provide holistic cure.

When you approach Jeevam Health, their representative will first understand your specific concerns, challenges and your goals. You will then have a detailed online consultation with their expert doctor, who will do an in-depth analysis to find out your root cause of illness. Based on this, a detailed treatment plan would be created for you, and you would be placed under the continuous care of their experts for the holistic cure.

“We are targeting the 200 million Indians suffering from chronic health conditions like autoimmune and metabolic issues. Unlike conventional doctors, who prescribe medication to suppress or manage the symptoms, Jeevam doctors use nutritional biochemistry, advanced diagnostics, and digital tools to identify the root cause of patient disease and aim to cure the root cause. Lifelong medication is not the only solution. We need to find the real problem of any dysfunction in our body and solve it naturally.”

Jeevam Health has recently raised $150,000 from Y Combinator in a pre-seed round. Its CEO Piyush said that getting backed by Y Combinator reinforces the startup’s vision to transform primary healthcare in India.

“The latest seed funding from Y Combinator will help the startup to create treatment protocols for complicated autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto Thyroiditis, psoriasis, and multiple sclerosis. The team is working to build the software stack to analyze thousands of biomarkers using functional medicine concepts and seek patterns in the patient’s health conditions. The software will assist the functional medicine doctors in finding the root cause of diseases with less effort with an increasing number of handled cases.”

– Kamran Alam, Co-founder and CTO

“Apart from providing holistic functional treatment, the startup uses advanced diagnostics, tracks patient’s symptoms, offers high-quality supplements, and uses food-as-medicine to treat the root cause of the patient’s disease. Jeevam Nutrition experts provide personalized nutrition plans to its patients, which sets them apart from the rest of the industry players. In the last six months, the startup has reached out to and is assisting several hundred patients.”

– Dr. Anish Musa, Co-founder and CMO

With a population of 1.34 billion, the burden of disease in India is closely monitored by scientists interested in health globally. Over 20% of the country’s population suffers from at least one of the non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which are estimated to cost India $6.2 trillion during the period 2012-2030, according to a report. And Jeevam Health is all set to do a commendable work in treating this segment of people using its holistic approach.
